Makassar (ANTARA) - Rector of Hasanuddin University (Unhas) Prof. Dr. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc. with the group visited Hiroshima University, on the Saijo Campus, Wednesday, May 10, 2023.
During this visit, the Rector of Unhas was accompanied by the Vice-Rector for Partnership, Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Business, Prof. Adi Maulana, M. Phil., Ph.D. and Rector’s Secretary Dr. Sawedi Muhammad.
Prof. Adi Maulana conveyed from Japan that the visit of the Unhas group was received by the President of Hiroshima University President Mitsuo Ochi and his staff.
The event began by inviting Unhas Rector to the ceremony to inaugurate the renewal of the Unhas plaque planted at the Memorial Park in Hiroshima Deigaku.
Prof. JJ handed over Unhas Chocolate Celebes products to the President of Hiroshima University. Meanwhile, the President of Hiroshima University, Prof. Mitsuo Ochi gave a tie to Prof JJ, the Rector of Hasanuddin University as a symbol of friendship.
This friendship started with Prof. dr. Husni Tanra, Ph.D., who conducted further studies at Hiroshima University meaning the relationship between Unhas and Hiroshima University has been going on for about 47 years, said Prof JJ.
During this visit, both parties renewed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which had been signed in 1997 and is still valid today. In this ceremony, Prof. JJ handed over the Unhas plaque with the symbol of a boat rudder made of teak, one of the typical trees from Indonesia.
The meeting then continued in the meeting room of the Chancellor of Hiroshima University. In this warm meeting, several patterns and schemes of future cooperation were agreed upon.
Unhas and Hiroshima University will later strengthen each other, not only in existing fields such as medicine, engineering and other fields but also agree to work together in relatively new fields in Indonesia, such as the field of science material.
This will certainly support Unhas, which happens to have just opened the Department of Materials and Metallurgy. In the future, it is hoped that the two universities can work together more closely and be followed by outputs in the form of international-level publications.
Furthermore, the entourage and the host took a group photo and continued to have dinner together.
Prof JJ and his entourage continued on to Tokyo to visit one of the largest science techno parks (STP) in Japan. This STP is located in Suraoka City, north of Tokyo which is currently managed by Keio University, one of the largest private universities in Japan.
