Two Killed in Barru Floods

Barru, S Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - Two people were killed in floods that have swept through Barru district, South Sulawesi province, over the past few days.
The two were working on their rice field when flash floods hit the area, spokesman for the Barru district administration A Djalil Mappiare said on Wednesday.
They were believed to have been carried away by water currents and their bodies were found only on Wednesday morning, he said.
The floods hit Barru, Balusu and Tanete Riaja subdistricts after a number of rivers overflowed.
"The floods were caused by heavy rainfall in Barru district. As a result, a number of rivers overflowed, inundating houses and rice fields since Tuesday evening," he said.
