South Sulawesi`s Exports Fall

Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - South Sulawesi`s exports fell 37.1 percent in value to US$147.2 million in December, 2012 from the previous month.
The exports in December, however, rose 36.07 percent on-year, head of the South Sulawesi Central Bureau of Statistic office Nursam Salam said here on Friday.
Exports to Japan of South Sulawesi`s main export commodities - nickel, cacao, shrimp , crabs and timber accounted for the bulk or US$101.46 million of the export in December, Nursam said.
Exports to Malaysia were valued at US$9.05 million to China, US$7.61 million to the United States US$6.29 million and to Singapore US$5.91 million.
"The decline in exports in December was caused by weak demand for the main export commodities," he said.
Meanwhile, imports of the province were valued at US$145.42 million in December , up 68.86 percent from November 2012 and 59.70 percent year-on-year.
Its main imports included ships, boats, floating objects and minerals, mechanic machines and wheat grain. ***3***
