Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - The USAID Higher Education Leadership and Management (HELM), in cooperation with the Bogor-based Institute of Agriculture (IPB), held a symposium on the leadership and management of higher education in Indonesia.
"This activity is aimed at developing the management of higher education in Indonesia by involving all stakeholders through presentations and dialogues," Chief of Party, HELM, Dr. Andrea Bosch said here on Saturday while commenting on efforts to develop human resources in the higher education sector.
Bosch added that the symposium, which was held at the IPB Convention Center, was organized as part of efforts to strengthen the leadership and management of higher education in Indonesia.
The event was conducted along with the rector assembly meeting of state-owned universities across the country.
In the meeting, HELM featured two speakers---Dr. Margaret Sutton from Indiana University, who explained the challenges and opportunities of conducting research on social sciences in Indonesia, and Dr. Tom Laird, who discussed general indicators that trigger national-level higher education.
Bosch further noted that the long-term development of higher education, leadership, and management in Indonesia was the foundation of the HELM project.
"We will cooperate with Indiana University to strengthen local researchers and systems in universities that conduct research, and to convey various decisions in the higher learning community in the future," she remarked.
HELM has been cooperating with the Ministry of Research and Technology and Higher Learning Education and the Indiana Alliance. The alliance comprises three universities in the United States, namely Indiana University, Ohio State University and the University of Illinois.
Moreover, local partners of HELM include IPB, Yogyakarta-based Gadjah Mada University, "Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia," and Padang State University (UNP).
