Mamuju (ANTARA Sulsel) - Rail tracks will soon be built to link four of five provinces in Sulawesi, a spokesman of the West Sulawesi administration said.
Head of the human relations bureau of West Sulawesi Abdul Rasyid said the rail tracks will extend from South Sulawesi to West Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi and North Sulawesi.
Abdul Rasyid said here on Wednesday the West Sulawesi administration and the railway director general had discussed implementation of West Sulawesi`s part of the plan .
He said West Sulawesi will soon carry out feasibility study of the project in the province.
The provincial administration would prepare step to provide compensation for privately owned land to be used for the project, he said.
Discussion will also be held involving all regional administrations in Sulawesi on plan to build the trans-Sulawesi railway project, he said.
Earlier, West Sulawesi Governor Anwar Adnan Saleh said a number of countries are keen on taking part in the mega project.
"Russia, China, Germany, Japan and South Korea had indicated strong interest the project," Anwar, who is also chairman of the Sulawesi regional office of the Capital Investment Coordinating Board.
He said foreign investors are interested in the projects as the investment prospect is encouraging.
The project would bring about great change in Sulawesi and it would contribute to boosting the regional economic growth, he added.
"Trade would be brisker between the provinces and transport commodities would be greatly facilitated," he said.
Construction will start from South Sulawesi capital`s of Makassar leading to Pare Pare and Mamuju in West Sulawesi and to Palu in Central Sulawesi, he said.
The next phase will be between Palu and Manado in North Sulawesi, via Gorontalo, he said. O Tamindael
