Mamuju, W Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - West Sulawesi Governor Anwar Adnan Saleh was upset on Sunday as the contractor of West Sulewesi's Rp42 billion worth road project had not yet started its construction.
"I want that contractors for the road sections that stretch from Salubatu subdistrict in Bonehau district to Aralle subdistrict, Mamasa district worth Rp42 billion would start and finish the project soon," the governor said here on Sunday.
He said that it should not happened that construction period as specified in the budget for the the 7.1 km road would be over this year while the project remained unfinished or even not yet done.
The governor said if the road was not yet constructed this year, the local people would not be able to use it while they had been dreaming for the road construction since long.
The road will provide access of local people in isolated and mountainous areas to transport their agricultural products to the urban region in Mamuju.
In the meantime, Governor Adnan also revealed recently that his province is one of the six provinces which would be passed on by a planned construction of a trans Sulawesi railway tracks.
He said that a number of countries including Russia, China, Germany, Japan and South Korea have expressed interest in developing railway tracks in Sulawesi island.
It seemed that the countries would compete with one another to win a tender for the construction of the project, Anwar Adnan, who is also head of the Sulawesi Regional Development Coordinating Board (BKPRS), said.
"But the Indonesian government has yet to decide the country with which it will cooperate in building the much-needed project in Sulawesi," said Anwar who is also West Sulawesi governor.
He said six Sulawesi governors would meet with the directorate general of railway affairs at the Transportation Ministry in Jakarta later this year to follow up on the government's decision to build railway tracks on the island.
"(Each of the governors) will brief the director general of railway affairs on the opportunity and challenge to develop railway lines as well as their impact on the local economy. We will also discuss a plan to conduct a feasibility study," he said.
He expressed optimism that the project would bring about economic change on the island as it would facilitate the mobilization of goods and people from one area to another.
"Natural resources in this region will be easily transported and traded from one area to another in Sulawesi so it will contribute to the economic growth of each province in Sulawesi," he said. (A014/O001)
