Palopo Mayor Sentenced To 7-year Jail Term

Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - Palopo city mayor HPA Tenriadjeng has been sentenced to 7-year jail term for corruption and money laundering.

The Makassar corruption court said in 2011 Tenriadjeng transferred Rp7.7 billion in fund for free educational program to the accounts of his accomplice Peter Neckedhey in Jakarta.

Earlier since April 2008 the convict already made similar transfers of money totaling around Rp34 billion , the panel of judges presided by Pudjo Hunggul said in the verdict.

Mustafa, a subordinate the mayor, testified at the court saying he had made 260 transfers of money totaling around Rp40 billion to the accounts of Peter on order from the mayor.

Peter told the court he had used part of the money to buy gold and transferred some to a Canadian named Smith.

Peter also said he entrusted Rp20 billion of the money to a Saudi friend Yusuf, who is also a business partner of Mr Smith and Peter Nackdi. O Tamindael
