Palu (ANTARA Sulsel) - Hotels in Palu, Central Sulawesi are fully occupied by local and foreign tourists wanting to watch the rare natural phenomenon of sun eclipse from that city.
"All hotels have been fully occupied including inns a day before the sun eclipse," head of the Central Sulawesi tourism service Siti Norma Mardjanu said here on Tuesday.
Siti said increase has been recorded in the number of hotel guests since the end of last week and most of them are those wanting to watch the total eclipse of the sun on Wednesday.
He estimated that more than 5,000 tourists were expected to flock to Palu until early Wednesday.
Airlines bound for Palu also recorded an increase in load factor until Tuesday.
Palu is in difficulty to accommodate the visitors that many of them were accommodated at the houses of local people.
The government is busy to take precaution against possible problem in security.
Meanwhile, in Ternate, North Maluku, head of the tourism office Anas Konoras said there are at least 2,000 foreign tourists to visit the province to watch the total eclipse from places in that region.
Around 80 percent of the tourists would seek to enjoy seeing the eclipse on the island of Ternate and the rest in Jailolo and Maba, Anas said.
Maba on the Halmahera, Ternate`s neighboring island, would be the country`s last land from which the total eclipse could be seen.
The enthusiastic tourists, however, could end their visit in disappointment as thick cloud would block or blur the view in the rainy season in the country.
Meanwhile, the provincial health service has asked all district and city administrations in North Maluku to warn the people against the danger of damage to the eye retina if looking directly at the eclipse.
The Provincial administration has instructed all hospitals in that region to be ready with a medical team to offer medical assistance to cope with the threat of disease as a result of the natural phenomenon.
North Maluku police chief Brig.Gen. Zulkarnain there were already 1,836 foreign tourists now in North Maluku to watch the eclipse.
