The International Office Hasanuddin University Launches the First Homecoming Alumni
Makassar (ANTARA) - One of the flagships and the newest programs from the International Office Hasanuddin University (IO UNHAS) is a Homecoming Alumni (HA). The first HA was held on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Senate Room 2nd floor of Rectorate Building.
The HA was moderated by Dr. dr. Rina Masaadah, M.Phil, Sp.PA(K). Representing the IO, Muhammad Ridwan, M.A. (Secretary of IO) was present to deliver an opening remark.
The HA presented Rajaie Komaruddin, an UNHAS medical student, from Malaysia studying from 2000-2006. He is now an active surgeon at the Department of Hepatopancreatobiliary and Liver Transplant, Selayang Hospital Malaysia.
The HA was attended by almost 100 students and alumni from both offline and online.
In his remark, Mr. Ridwan described that the aims of this HA were to enable alumni overseas to share their challenges and opportunities during their journey here at UNHAS and after graduation.
The second aim was to enable our current international and local students to learn from the successful alumni and take the experience as their inspiration and motivation preparing themselves for global challenges.
In his presentation, dr. Rajaie began with showing an image of his professional work. He showed a picture in the operation room in which his team and he were doing a liver transplant.
He continued with his inspirational figures. He said that his parents were his first inspiring figures and then went on to a job that could help others, the importance of health, movies and books as well as certainly Avicenna whose quote was there are no incurable diseases - only the lack of will. There are now worthless herbs - only the lack of knowledge.
Dokter Rajaie continued with career journey. He completed his postgraduate training in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and then became a surgeon for 4 years at the Ministry of Health and he was awarded Hepatopancreatobiliary and Live Transplants Surgery in 2019. In addition, he then explained the hospital where he works professionally.
Another slide that was interesting was about what UNHAS taught him such as resilience, building his self confidence, working underpressure, core value to become a doctor and skill of adaptability.
Meanwhile, he also explained the messages that he took home such as setting goals, remembering the purpose of life and giving things back to the community.
In his closing and conclusion, dr. Rajaie suggested no to waste time as we do not have a guaranteed long time and any day might be the last.
He continued by saying that the ultimate goal in life was to seek God, Allah’s pleasure and attain paradise (jannah) in the hereafter. He ended his presentation.
Before closing, the moderator invited the participants to the Question and Answer (Q&A) Session. The Head of IO, Andi Masyitha Irwan, Ph.D expressed her attitude with the presence of dr. Rajaie in this event. Ms. Masyitha conveyed her thankfulness to dr. Rajaie. The session was officially closed by the Head of IO and ended with a photo session with all participants.
