Beijing, China (ANTARA Sulbar) - Delegations of West Sulawesi Province of Indonesia and Guangzi Province of China are holding talks on the establishment of a sister seaport cooperation, an Indonesian delegate to the meeting said.
"We are now holding a meeting with delegations from state-owned companies of Guiangzi province and Fangchenggan City at the Indonesian Embassy here," Harry Warganegara, the chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) for West Sulawesi office, said here on Thursday.
Harry, who is also chairman of West Sulawesi regional government-owned companies (BUMD), said that the meeting was important because it was to be attended by Chinese businessmen.
"Many businessmen will attend the meeting. We hope the cooperation between Indonesia and China, particularly between West Sulawesi and Guangzi would be increased further," Harry said.
He said that the meeting was held thanks to the assistance of Indonesian Ambassador to China and Mongolia Imron Cotan who had previously explore the cooperation with Guangzi companies.
"So, this meeting is not a sudden event but it has been explored long before by the Indonesian ambassador to China in Beijing," Harry said.
He said that the sister seaport cooperation was important to optimize the function of Belang-Belang Seaport in Mamuju, West Sulawesi Province. The Guangzi state companies gave a positive response to the sister seaport cooperation with West Sulawesi because it would be able to cut logistics cost by two dollars per ton from the usual cost if the goods passed on the third port of Singapore.
"So far, Guangzi has been taking Singapore as the third seaport for its logistics lane to West Sulawesi. But after studying a sister port cooperation, China found it would benefit its logistics and reduce cost by two dollars per ton," said Harry.
He said that with the cooperation, the dispatch of logistics between China and Indonesia would become easy. Fangchenggan City in Guangzi is one of the biggest seaport area in China.
"Fangchenggan has piers with a length of two kilometers and accommodating capacity of ships with 250-350 DWTs. The seaport serves as a center for logistics transportation activities to Southeast Asian countries and to other Asian nations," Harry added.
The meeting will be attended by West Sulawesi Governor Anwar Adnan Saleh, Kadin chairman for Polman (West Sulawesi) Hasan Bado, Kadin chairman for Mamuju Fahruddin Kasim and other relevant officials of West Sulawesi province.
"This is progressive step we are taking to optimize the development of Belang-Belang Seaport," said Harry. A Abdussalam/O Tamindael
