Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA Sulsel) - A boat carrying seven people and 7.5 tons of sea bamboo went down after being hit by high waves in Selayar waters, South Sulawesi province, on Sunday.
One of the seven people on board, identified as Baso Darwis (32), still went missing and the other six survived after being rescued by the local fishermen with the help of the police, Antara learned here on Sunday.
Manai, father of Darwis, said that Baso along with his six colleagues of Bontotiro sub-district were on their way to Selayar on Saturday (Jan 9) to buy sea bamboo.
At the moment they visited Takabonerate islands where the commodity was sold.
Unfortunately, however, on their way home, their boat was hit by high waves caused by strong winds.
"It was the first time Baso came to Takabonerate in effort to buy sea bamboo as well as for an excursion," Manai said.
In the meantime, chief of Selayar police precint, senior commissioner Muhammad Noor Subchan said that the six survivors were identified as Jamaluddin, Bustam, Amri, Pampang, Zainuddin and Amiruddin.
They, however, were still weak, and were given accommodation at the home of Jinota hamlet chief in Selayar.
They were not allowed to cross to Bulukumba district due to the high waves in Selayar.
