Singapore (ANTARA News) - Aust Air Airlines is interested in opening a flight route linking Singapore with Makassar in South Sulawesi, Aust Air Airlines Sales Manager Yvete Chen said.
Chen expressed the Aust Air's interest at a meeting between the South Sulawesi government and representatives of the International Enterprises Singapore, Sriwijaya Air and Changi International Airport here on Friday.
He said his side was now exploring the possibility of opening the air-link and calculating operational cost for the plan to open the Singapore-Makassar route.
The airlines which is managed by Silk Air also is eying the cargo transportation from / to the two regions.
South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo said his province had 24 commodities being exported to Singapore.
In the meantime, South Sulawesi's Hasanuddin International airport is now being used by about five thousand passengers and 180 flights.
Aust Air which serves the Singapore-Timor Leste route twice a week used to have a flight route to Makassar in 1995 but it was closed in 2002 because of declining passengers.
In the meantime, Sriwijaya Air country manager Franky Gan said his side was also discussing a technical cooperation and making preparations for its plan to open a flight route between Makassar and Singapore. (A014/HAJM)
