Makassar, South Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - Jusuf Kalla said recent incident in Poso was not a communal conflict but a terrorism in case.
"The situation now is different. What happened before was a communal conflict but now it was terrorism, Kalla who played a key role in settling conflicts in Poso in 1998-2000 said to newsmen after giving a lecture on entrepreneurship at state Alauddin II Islamic University in Samata in the Gowa district, South Sulawesi, on Friday.
The former vice president said what happened now in Poso was terrorism and clearly not leading to a communal conflict and therefore security authorities must immediately settle it.
"So, they are different cases. Now it is the problem of the police and the military (TNI) to settle," he said.
Kalla who is now the chief of the Indonesian Red Cross said he hoped people would report to the police or the TNI in case they saw an incident threatening security stability.
When asked on who might have been behind the terrorism Kalla said he did not know.
"I do not know. What is clear is the community must safeguard their neighborhood and immediately report to the police or TNI if they see acts of terrorism," he said.
Two police officers had been killed in Poso while investigating suspected terrorist activities.
The bodies of Brigadier Andi Safa and Chief Brigadier Surdirman were found with slice wounds on their necks while their weapons had gone missing. (T.H-YH/O001)
