Makassar (ANTARA Sulsel) - The first phase of construction of Makassar New Port (NPM) will cost Rp1.5 trillion with construction to start this year to be completed in three years.
The project is part of the government`s program to build `sea toll road` to facilitate and modernize sea transport between the west and eastern ends of the country, an official said.
The new port will have a 320 meter long quay and a 16 hectare plot of land for container cargo area, Mulyono, the president director of state port operator PT Pelindo IV Makassar, said here on Monday.
"However, the location of the new port is yet to be decided. The new port is important to strengthen the national logistic system and to connectivity between Indonesian islands," he said.
Minister for State Enterprises Rini M Soemarno is scheduled to visit Makassar to discuss the project with regional leaders.
