Unhas` representative Hasrullah stated here on Thursday that the university`s participation in the forum is a form of cooperation between the Ministry of Public Works and People Housing and Unhas` Community Service Program for Infrastructure.
"Unhas is ready to participate in the event that features several programs, such as networking event and trainings, the European Union DG Regional Networking Event: Cities Contributing to the Urban Agenda, and training on City Energy and Climate Action," Hasrullah revealed.
The forum, in which 193 countries are participating, is a meeting of UN and EU members to discuss issues related to urban development by inviting related various stakeholders.
He explained that the forum also addresses urbanization issues and their impact on society, economy, climate change, and development policies.
The 9th WUF is themed "Cities 2030, Cities for all: Implementing the New Urban Agenda."
The objective of the WUF is to raise public awareness of the positive impacts of sustainable urbanization and to increase knowledge on building sustainable cities through open debate.
The participants and various sources will also share best practices and inputs on urban management.
This forum provides an opportunity for participants to improve coordination and cooperation within the framework of progress and sustainable urbanization management.
In addition to Unhas, Indonesian representatives participating in the 9th WUF include ministries/agencies, local administrations, and non-governmental organizations.
The 9th WUF is holding various programs: assemblies, such as the World Urban Children and Youth Assembly, Women Assembly, and Business Assembly; dialogs; special session; stakeholder`s round table; networking events; side events; trainings; urban talks; parallel events; city events; and the 9th WUF village.
The 10th session of the World Urban Forum will take place in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, in 2020.
