Makassar, S Sulawesi (Antaranews Sulsel) - Research and Technology High Education Minister Mohamad Nasir has encouraged Hasanuddin University (Unhas) in Makassar, South Sulawesi Province, to rank among the world`s top 500 universities.
Minister Nasir made the statement while attending the inauguration of Prof. Dr. Dwia Aries Tina Pulubuhu M.A. as rector of Unhas at the A.P. Pettarani Building in Makassar on Friday.
"In future, the rector will have to shoulder difficult responsibilities. The university is expected to be innovative and creative due to the tough competition. Hence, we encourage Unhas to be a world-class university," he explained.
Universities in Indonesia are expected to compete internationally and must be encouraged to realize it, such as international publications.
Research work will be beneficial for a wider community even in future.
However, facts expose the limitations in the form of unfulfilled requirements faced by universities in Indonesia in order to rank among the top 500 world-class universities.
"I wish Unhas will be a pioneer in Indonesia and become a world-class university. One of the requirements is the development of research and innovation," he stated.
On the occasion, Nasir was proud of Unhas` rector, who was selected through an acclamation process for the first time.
It is expected that Unhas will transform the campus into the ranks of elite universities in the world through the re-election of Prof. Pulubuhu, who has managed the university in the past four years.
