Makassar (ANTARA) - Kyoto University invited the Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University (FK UNHAS) to continue their collaboration in Asia and African Area Studies (ASAFAS).
The discussion was about the project of Maritime Asia Pacific Studies (MAPS) funded by the National Institute of Humanity of Japan. This research project involved well-known institutions in Japan, such as the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, National Museum of Ethnology, Tokyo Metropolitan University and Toyo University. The international symposium was held on January 26-28, 2024 at Kyoto University, Japan.
The FK UNHAS delegation included Prof. Irawan Yusuf as the Team Leader, Dr. Andi Alfian Zainuddin (Vice Dean for Partnerships, Research, and Innovation) and Prof. Muh. Nasrum Massi (UNHAS Head of Institute of Research and Community Services).
Prof. Irawan Yusuf presented the research design entitled "Syndemic Approach of Diseases Burden in Wallacea Region; Geospatial and Network Analysis.”.
He mentioned that the Wallacea area, which covers Sulawesi, Maluku, and Nusa Tenggara Islands, is diverse not only in terms of ecology but also in certain characteristics of diseases; involving social, economics and other environmental factors.
FK UNHAS was the only delegation from Indonesia along with several international researchers from other countries such as Germany, Palau, Solomon Islands, and from Japan itself .
Dr Alfian stated that this event was the starting point of the collaboration signed by both parties in December 2023 and was expected to produce collaborative research primarily in the Asia Pacific areas.
